Program Description:
The Veterinary Technology Program prepares students with knowledge and skills to work in a number of animal health fields by the completion of lecture, supervised laboratory skills courses, and external clinical experiences. Additionally, the Program is a collaborative effort with Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences where students complete several of their lab and clincal hours.
Admissions is on a competitive basis, and admits a new cohort each Fall semester. After successful completion of the two-year curriculum, students are eligible to sit for the national and then state credentialing exams, which leads to a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT).

Program Notes:
This is a competitive entry, cohort Applied Sciences Program at Blinn College. To be eligible for admissions into the Veterinary Technology Program, the following minimum criteria must be met.
- Complete all admissions requirements to Blinn College. Acceptance into Blinn College does not guarantee acceptance into the Veterinary Technology Program. Admissions requirements for Blinn College should be seen as separate requirements from those within the Veterinary Technology Program application packet.
- Be TSI College Ready in all subjects by Blinn College standards.
- Attend an Information Session in the year prior to seeking admissions to receive the application packet.
- Completion of the Veterinary Technology Program application packet and all requirements therein by the stated deadline.
- Grades of “C” or better in all prerequisite and corequisite courses, with a minimum overall GPA of a 2.5 or greater. All prerequisite courses must be completed prior to the start of the Veterinary Technology Program. However, it is encouraged to complete as many of the prerequisites and corequisites (academic courses) prior to the start of the Program to be a more competitive applicant.
- BIOL 1406, and MATH 1314 or MATH 1324 must be completed within 10 years of the application deadline.
- BIOL 2420 must be completed within 3 years of the application deadline.
- Take the ATI TEAS test with a minimum overall score of 70 or higher.
- Clinical observation hours of an LVT or DVM- minimum 40 hours. Recommended to complete more hours than minimum to be more competitive (up to 120 hours). Observation hours must be completed within 2 years of the application deadline.
- Animal related experience- minimum 20 hours. Recommended to complete more hours than minimum to be more competitive (up to 160 hours).
- Three letters of recommendation.
- Application essay.
- Optional items considered, but not required, include community service hours or military service, college degree(s), any professional health care certifications, and membership & participation in the Pre-Vet Tech Student Organization (www.blinn.edu/twe/vet_tech/pre_vtso.html).
- Required interviews for final selection.
Admitted students will be required to show proof of required immunizations and submit to a criminal background check and drug screening process to be eligible to continue into the Veterinary Technology Program.
