(FROM ACGM): Integration of critical reading and academic writing skills. Successful completion of this intervention if taught at the upper (exit) level fulfills TSI requirements for reading and/or writing.

DIRW 0300 integrates critical reading and writing skills in a combined lecture/lab, performance-based course. The course focuses on applying critical reading skills for organizing, analyzing, and retaining material. DIRW 0300 assists students with developing written work appropriate to the audience, purpose, situation, and length of assignments. The course integrates preparation in basic academic reading skills with basic academic writing skills to improve performance on reading and writing assignments. The course fulfills TSIA requirements for level I reading and writing. Students who earn a grade of B (80-100) will be college ready and have fulfilled their TSIA liability. Students who earn a grade of M (50-79) will be eligible to register for a corequisite English course (DIRW 0327 paired with ENGL 1301). Students earning a grade of F (0-49) must retake the course. Students enrolled in DIRW 0300 may retake the TSIA test at any time, and, if they meet the TSIA liability requirement, they then become eligible to register for ENGL 1301.  This course does not count toward a degree or certificate.

Prerequisite(s): An ELAR TSIA2 score of 910 - 944 AND a Diagnostic of 1-2.

Co-enrolled: EDUC 1300 unless already taken with a grade of D or better.
