A study of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and its application to singing in English, Italian, German, and French (ACGM). While some grammatical rules will be taught, this course does not teach the language. Students will be able to perform songs in English in a way that demonstrates accurate singing diction while
learning basic symbols of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA)

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify IPA symbols and their sounds.
  2. Accurately reproduce sounds associated with IPA symbols.
  3. Transcribe texts with appropriate IPA symbols.
  4. Perform songs in English, Italian, German, and/or French in a way that demonstrates accurate diction.


Prerequisite(s): Audition and acceptance into the Vocal Music Program
