Should be taken in conjunction with Basic Peace Officer I, II, III, and V (supplement) to satisfy the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement approved Basic Peace Officer Training Academy. ***THIS COURSE MAY BE OFFERED ONLY BY INSTITUTIONS LICENSED AS A POLICE ACADEMY BY Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.*** It covers laws directly related to police field work. Course topics include Texas Transportation Code, intoxicated driver, Texas Penal Code, elements of crimes, Texas Family Code, Texas Alcohol Beverage Code, and civil liability. It requires the demonstration and practice of the skills of a police officer, including patrol, driving, traffic stop skills, use of force, mechanics of arrest, firearm safety, and emergency medical care. It also includes study of techniques and procedures used by police officers on patrol. It includes controlled substance identification, handling abnormal persons, traffic collision investigation, note-taking and report writing, vehicle operation, traffic direction, crowd control, and jail operations.
Prerequisite(s): All students must complete the Police Academy application process. Admission to Blinn College does not guarantee admission to the Police Academy.
