Students will study works of prose, poetry, drama, and fiction in relation to their historical, linguistic, and cultural contexts. Texts will be selected from a diverse group of authors and traditions. This survey introduces students to the principal authors, works, and trends that comprise the canon of British literature from the Anglo-Saxon period through the eighteenth century. Papers are required. Prerequisite(s):ENGL 1301 or ENGL 1302 with a C or better (both ENGL 1301 and ENGL 1302 require TSI College-Ready status in reading and writing).
