Not counted toward a degree or certificate. This is a combined lecture/lab, performancebased course designed to develop students’ critical reading and academic writing skills. The focus of the course will be on applying critical reading skills for organizing, analyzing, and retaining material and developing written work appropriate to the audience, purpose, situation, and length of the assignment. The course integrates preparation in basic academic reading skills with basic skills in writing a variety of academic essays. The course fulfills TSI requirements for reading and writing. Additionally, DIRW 0327 is paired with a credit course; DIRW 0327 learning activities will support reading and writing for the paired course. Prerequisite(s): Appropriate scores on the TSIA or completion of DIRW 0325 with a grade of “C” or better or completion of READ 305 and ENGL 320 with grades of “C” or better, or completion of ESOL 335 and ESOL 324 with a grades of “C” or better Corequisite(s): Concurrent enrollment in a designated paired credit course Co-enrolled: Students enrolling in DIRW 0327 must also enroll in EDUC 1300
