Prerequisite: a course you must successfully complete prior to enrolling in the course for which it is listed as a prerequisite. You must receive a grade of C (2.0) or better in order for the course to satisfy a prerequisite requirement, unless otherwise specified in the course description.

Corequisite: a course you may enroll in simultaneously as the course for which it is listed as a corequisite.

Co-enrolled: a course you must enroll in while simultaneously enrolled in another designated course.

Contact hour disclaimer: Weekly lecture/lab/external contact hours denoted in all course descriptions reference a standard sixteen (16) week fall or spring semester. For non-standard semesters/sessions (e.g. summer semesters, winter/spring mini-mesters, 12-week sessions, etc.), the lecture/lab/external material will be covered over a shorter period of time, resulting in more hours each week. Total contact hours will remain the same for each course regardless of the semester/session type or the teaching modality (e.g. internet, blended, face-to-face, etc.). Types of Course Fees:

Online Course Fees: A $25 per course fee covering the cost of software and equipment will be charged for online and blended course sections.

Course/Lab/SIM Lab/Testing Fees: These fees are additional charges, approved by the Blinn College Board of Trustees, for specific courses that have demonstrably higher costs of delivering instruction because of the need for special equipment, supplies, use of facilities, technology, software, field trips, testing costs, or lessons required by the course.

    Continuation of advanced chromaticism and survey of analytical and compositional procedures in post-tonal music. Optional correlated study at the keyboard.

    Student Learning Outcomes:  
    Upon successful completion of this course, students will:

    1. Construct and identify advanced chromatic harmonies.
    2. Analyze musical compositions that utilize advanced chromatic harmonies and foreign-key modulation techniques.
    3. Analyze musical compositions that utilize a variety of post-tonal practices.
    4. Compose music utilizing appropriate post-tonal practices.
    5. Demonstrate musical concepts covered in class on the keyboard.
    6. Demonstrate an understanding of rhythmic meter and note duration through score analysis and composition.

Performances at all home football games, select away games, annual Buccaneer Marching Festival, exhibition performances and local parades.     Jazz Combo is designed to help students develop the skills necessary to perform proficiently in a small jazz ensemble. The course covers amount other subjects, performance technique, stylistic considerations, basic arranging, and basic improvisation. Smaller instrumental ensembles: wind, string, percussion, piano, or lab (jazz, rock, fusion, or contemporary).

    Student Learning Outcomes

    1. Perform with technical proficiency assigned repertoire presenting good tone quality, rhythmic accuracy, correct stylistic articulation and expressiveness.
    2. Demonstrate listening and psychomotor skills to balance ones sound within the section and the ensemble.
    3. Prepare and present assigned music accurately while incorporating rhythmic subdivision, tone quality, range, articulation and dynamic control.
    4. Perform improvisations on the student’s main instrument with technical proficiency.
    5. Employ direction from instructors in rehearsals and performance.
    6. Render music with appropriate stylistic consideration commensurate with compositional era.

      Prerequisite(s): Students must audition at the beginning of the semester to gain admittance into the ensemble. Students should be a member of the Blinn College band program although exceptions can be made.
