Truck Driving

Heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers professionally drive a tractor-trailer combination or a truck with a capacity of at least 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW). Driver’s must be licensed in their state and may be required to unload the freight at their destination. Job titles include Truck Driver, Driver, Over the Road Driver (OTR Driver), Line Haul Driver, Delivery Driver, Owner Operator, Road Driver, Semi Truck Driver, City Driver, Feeder Driver.

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the average hourly wage for Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Drivers in the Brazos Valley was $18.81 in 2016, and the average annual pay in Texas and United States was just under $43,000 per year. Over the Road (OTR) drivers can make even higher salaries, with some companies paying $48-60,000 per year the first year. Truck Driving is considered a high-wage, high-growth career field by the Brazos Valley Workforce Solutions.
