This degree prepares students by providing the agricultural foundation necessary to successfully transfer and pursue a bachelor’s degree in the area of agricultural sciences at a four year college/university. Students are given the opportunity to learn fundamentals – as well as theory and practical application of: animal science, horticulture, agronomy, agriculture economics, agriculture industry, agriculture mechanics, wildlife conservation, food science, livestock evaluation, and plant protection (entomology).

Core Component: 42 Credit Hours


Communication: 6 Credit Hours


Choose Two (2):

Mathematics: 3 Credit Hours


If any overflow hours are earned from Life and Physical Sciences, these will be applied to the Component Area Option.

Choose One (1):

Life and Physical Sciences: 6 Credit Hours


If any overflow hours are earned from Life and Physical Sciences, these will be applied to the Component Area Option.

Choose a minimum of Six (6) Hours:

Language, Philosophy, Culture: 3 Credit Hours


Choose One (1):

Creative Arts: 3 Credit Hours


Choose One (1):

American History: 6 Credit Hours


Choose Two (2):

Government/Political Science: 6 Credit Hours


Social and Behavioral Sciences: 3 Credit Hours


Choose One (1):

Component Area Option: 6 Credit Hours


If any overflow hours are earned from Life and Physical Sciences, these will be applied to the Component Area Option.

Choose Two (2) courses equaling six (6) hours unless overflow hours from Life and Physical Sciences are used:

Academic Electives: 6 Credit Hours


Area of Concentration: 12 Credit Hours


Agriculture: 12 Credit Hours


  • Choose any combination of AGRI courses not taken as a General Academic Elective to equal 12 credit hours.

Total Hours for Degree: 60 Credit Hours


Notes:

TAMUAGRI 1307 , AGRI 1315  serves as Tier 2 science for non-science majors and Life and Physical Science Core requirement for those that are co-enrolled.
TAMUAGRI 2317  serves as a Social and Behavioral Science core requirement for those that are co-enrolled.
SHSU – Science majors can also take AGRI 1315 , AGRI 1319  to meet BIOL credits.
