This introductory course provides a comprehensive overview of the fundamental concepts, techniques, and algorithms in machine learning. Students will gain the basic ideas and intuition behind modern machine learning methods as well as a more formal understanding of how, why, and when they work.
Topics cover supervised and unsupervised learning, data acquisition, data modeling, classification, and linear regression. The underlying theme is statistical inference, which provides the foundation for most of the methods covered. This course heavily emphasizes hands-on application using the Python programming language.
