Program Description:

The Associate Degree Nursing Program curriculum includes general education courses and nursing courses, with a generic two-year option and an LVN Transition Option. Generic students are admitted twice a year, in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Admissions is on a competitive basis, utilizing grades and entrance exam scores (see Program Notes below for details). Students who are accepted will complete a two-year total course of study. After successful completion of the curriculum, students are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam.

The Associate Degree Nursing Program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326; (404) 975-5000, FAX (404) 975-5020. The Associate Degree Nursing Program is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing, 333 Guadalupe, #3-460, Austin, TX 78701, (512) 305-7400, FAX (512) 305-7401.

Program Notes:

This is a competitive entry, cohort Applied Sciences Program at Blinn College. To be eligible for admissions into the generic Nursing option, the following minimum criteria must be met.

  1. Complete all admissions requirements to Blinn College. Acceptance into Blinn College does not guarantee acceptance into the generic Nursing option. Admissions requirements for Blinn College should be seen as separate requirements from those within the generic Nursing application packet.
  2. Be TSI College Ready in all subjects by Blinn College standards.
  3. Completion of the generic Nursing application packet and all requirements therein by the stated deadline.
  4. Grades of “C” or better in all prerequisite and corequisite courses, with a minimum admissions GPA of a 2.5 or greater. All prerequisite courses must be completed prior to the start of the generic Nursing. However, priority for admissions will be given to those students who have all prerequisite courses completed at the time of application. Other highly competitive candidates will be considered for conditional admissions for the current admissions cycle and wait-list admissions for the following admissions cycle.
    • BIOL 2401, BIOL 2402, & BIOL 2420 must be completed within 5 years of the application deadline.
    • Admissions GPA is calculated based on the prerequisite and corequisite courses ONLY.
    • All takes of prerequisite and corequisite courses within 5 years of the application deadline will be used to calculate the admissions GPA.
  5. Take the ATI TEAS test with an overall minimum Academic Preparedness level of Proficient or above.
  6. Optional item considered, but not required, completion of HPRS 2301 Pathophysiology with a “B” or better.
  7. Students whose first/native language is not English (ESL), are required to take the TOEFL iBT Test, regardless of US education, years of residence, or US residency status. Applicants must attain an overall minimum score of 83 or higher on the iBT, with individual minimum scores of 20 or higher in the reading, writing, speaking, and listening sections. Scores must be within 2 years of application deadline to be considered.

Admitted students will be required to show proof of required immunizations and submit to a criminal background check and drug screening process to be eligible to continue into the generic Nursing option under the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
