Focuses on the physiology and mechanics of effective voice production with practice in articulation, pronunciation, and enunciation. Completion of or concurrent enrollment in SPCH 2341  is recommended.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Distinguish characteristics making up a pleasant vs. unpleasant speaking voice.
  2. Identify and locate the major pa1ts making up the respiratory and phonatory systems.
  3. Identify the International Phonetic Alphabet and the symbols for the phonemes of English.
  4. Demonstrate proper respiration for speech.
  5. Explain the proper production of consonants, vowels and diphthongs.
  6. Assess personal speech strengths and weaknesses.
  7. Employ techniques necessary for personal speaking skills.
  8. Demonstrate verbal expression of complex ideas and emotions.
Corequisite(s): Completion of or concurrent enrollment in SPCH 2341  is recommended.
