Credit Hours:3 Lecture Hours:3 Contact Hour Total:48 The purpose of the course is to introduce the student to symbolic logic, including syllogisms, propositional and predicate logic, and logical proofs in a system of rules. The course develops critical thinking skills, especially the ability to distinguish correct from incorrect reasoning, by an exploration of the major areas of modern symbolic logic. Among the topics covered are translating statements from natural to symbolic language, truth tables and natural deduction for propositional logic, models, and natural deduction for predicate logic.
