ESOL 238 Integrated Reading and Writing

ESOL 0238 is an individualized cirriculum for students whose post-course assessment or placement score demonstrates high proficiency but does not meet standards of efficiency and effectiveness for college level course work. This course will present an individualized and concentrated study of specific integrated reading and writing skills and strategies needed by identified students. This course will be delivered in a non-course format, with a significant independent study compoent. As a result, students must be able to thrive in a self-directed study environment. Students who successfully complete ESOL 0238 will be college ready in the areas remediated. Students who do not successfully complete ESOL 0238 have the option to repeat it; however, students who have taken ESOL 0238 in lieu of ESOL 326  must pass ESOL 326  with a C or better to satisfy TSI requirements for college readiness in reading. ESOL 0238 may be taken by students who have successfully completed ESOL 326  as advanced, independent study.

Prerequisite(s): Students seeking placement must be college ready in reading and have a score of 4 on the essay and 360-362 on the sentence skills part of the TSIA; or college ready in writing and have a score of 350 on the reading part of the TSIA; or score 4 on the essay and 360-362 on the sentence skills part of the TSIA and score 350 on the reading part of the TSIA; or satisfy other holistic advising requirements.

Notes: This course carries institutional credit but is not counted toward a degree or certificate.
